I am obsessed with cookbooks and food magazines. I have a few favorites, and a few “go-to” choices. I got this book at Christmas in 2014, and have kept it nearby EVERY time I’m in the kitchen. I found out about it in a list of the must-have cookbooks in a food magazine — I’d tell you if I remembered what it was. I think it was either Food Network Magazine or Food & Wine Magazine. Anyways, this cookbook is a favorite.
It’s basically an index of ingredients, and it tells you what goes with what. It lists flavor affiliates, meaning a few different ingredients that go well together. It tells what season it is. Also, for herbs, it tells you when to add them (beginning or end) for best flavors. It really is a Flavor Bible. There is also a Vegetarian version (if you win and prefer it, let me know).
